TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is a professional soccer club based in Sinsheim. In 2007, the club adopted the use of the short form name 1899 Hoffenheim in place of the traditional TSG Hoffenheim. 

The club was founded in 1945 when gymnastics club Turnverein Hoffenheim (founded 1 July 1899) and football club bankverein Hoffenheim (founded 1921) merged. The club played in the seventh division Baden-Württemberg A-Liga until the beginning of 1990. Around 1990, Dietmar Hopp who once got trained in the club returned to the club. As a rich businessman, Dietmar gave significant financial support to the club, which made the team get quick improvements and the team got promoted to the fifth division Verbandsliga Nordbaden in 1996. It got promoted to the fourth division Oberliga Baden-Württemberg after winning Verbandsliga Nordbaden title in 2000. In the following year, it soon got another promotion to the third division Regionalliga Süd and it showed up at the 2013/14 German Cup for the first time. Then it manages to stay in Bundesliga.
